Style and Savings Has a New Home

Style and Savings is an ever evolving project and has undergone yet another makeover.
You can now find the latest posts by Style and Savings at

The original Style and Savings began in August 2013 using the Blogger platform with a standard template and background.

As I started to learn more about how to use Blogger and got creative in developing the design, Style and Savings got a redesign and an Instagram account:

At the recommendation of a friend who studied marketing and PR and also recently started a blog, I decided to move my blog to WordPress. I was happy to discover that importing my old posts was extremely fast and easy, but the main reason I decided to move this blog was the availability of the name "Style and Savings" for the URL.

As I continue to learn how to use WordPress, I'm sure I will find new elements and have new ideas to add. I am already happy to have the Instagram preview and link on the sidebar.

Thanks for reading and following along with the new trends here at Style and Savings!

Checkout 51

Last week my friend introduced me to a new app. She knows how much I like making grocery lists and saving money!

With the new app, Checkout 51, you get  coupons, but instead of saving money instantly, the savings are added to your Checkout 51 profile.

Once your total savings reaches $20, you can select "Cash Out" and Checkout 51 will send you a check.

Step 1: Create an account using your email address or sign in using Facebook.

Step 2: View savings for the week. New discounts start on Thursdays and end on Wednesdays.

Step 3: Go grocery shopping

Step 4: Upload your receipt using your camera phone and select the items you purchased from the discount list.

Step 5: Submit your receipt for processing.

Step 6: Repeat until it's time to cash out!

Have you discovered any new money saving apps lately?

How do you save money on groceries?

Makeover Monday: 1

Welcome to Style and Savings first Makeover Monday.

Here are a few products that I like to use in the summer:

NYC: Sun to Sun Bronzer
Mary Kay: Amber Blaze eye shadow
Clinique: Different Lipstick in Tenderheart and Longlast glosswear SPF 15 in Sunset
Jergens: Soft Shimmer body lotion

I never thought that I would buy a bronzer, but last summer was my first summer working full-time in an office. I spent all day inside and many evenings at home resting. When my friend came to visit she recommended this bronzer so I could at least look like I was getting some sun.

I bought this bronze eyeshadow at a Mary Kay party several years ago. I was surprised that a pretty case would be sold separately, so I keep it in the original container. Yes.... I am really that cheap.

The Clinique lip duo is a present from my aunt. She always generous and gives me, my sister & cousin her free gifts with purchase. Basically I have a lifetime supply of Clinique.

This Soft Shimmer lotion by Jergens is actually a discontinued product.  I have had this bottle since high school and love the smell and light sparkle in the sun. Apparently the new similar product is Shea Butter Deep Conditioning Moisturizer.
If you have tried it before let me know what you think!

What are some of your favorite summer beauty products?

Green Smoothie breakfast

Lately, I have seen several green drink pictures and posts by other bloggers.
Not being a very health conscious person, I never thought I would try one....until 4th of July Weekend when my sister made this drink for me.

1/2 can Pineapple
1 bananna
1/2 cup Greek yogurt
1scoop Protein powder
1/4 cup Milk

The whipped cream topping makes this look like a dessert.

For children (or adult picky eaters like me) who won't eat vegetables, this drink is a delicious way to get the nutrition of Kale, a green veggie. This doesn't taste like vegetables at all -- the flavor only comes from the strawberry and banana.

If you love this idea, here are a couple more recipes to try from Sage and Sparkle and The Grits Blog:

Restaurant At Home: Shrimp Fajitas

I like to order Shrimp Fajitas at Mexican restaurants, but here is a simple recipe to make them at home too.

½ tsp. Oregano
½ tsp. Salt
½ tsp. Chile powder
¼ tsp. Garlic
14 medium shrimp
½ Green Pepper
½ Onion
2 tbsp. Vegetable oil
3 small flour tortillas

Chop the green pepper and onion into thin slices.

Mix all spices together in a bowl

Melt butter in a pan using the medium heat setting.
Pour half of the spices in with the peppers and onions cook for 4-5 minutes

After the vegetables have started to brown, add a tablespoon of water with the shrimp
and cook for about 2 more minutes.

Microwave tortillas for 15 seconds max.

Serve with a margarita and enjoy!
